Internet of Things

It is known to everyone that Internet has become a necessity, and almost everyone is now connected in some way to the Internet whether through their personal computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. The goal is to utilize this existing connectivity to communicate with everything around us to create a smarter and an efficient environment. The "Internet of Things (IoT)" allows you to track or control things around you. According to an IDC forecasts in, IoT "will grow from $1.9 trillion in 2013 to $7.1 trillion in 2020." It is not just a hype but it's the next technological boom!

Door Automation Team

Our goal for this project is to utilize this simple concept and build more functionality on top of it. The challenge was to build an electronic platform to control the door handle without causing any aesthetic damage to the door. Once completed, we are looking at several vision technologies to handle the door security. We are also planning to use these technologies in parallel, also as way for us to learn and understand these technologies for future projects. The technologies we are looking into using are: QR codes, hand/body gestures recognition, and facial recognition. We will continue to look at other technologies as we continue to work on this project.
